The Art of the Follow-Up: How to Stay on a Recruiter’s Radar

15. the art of the follow up

You had a great interview, and you’re feeling optimistic. But in a competitive market, the process doesn’t end when you walk out the door. A strategic follow-up can reinforce your enthusiasm and keep you top-of-mind.

The Follow-Up Email Formula:

Send this within 24 hours of your interview.

  • Subject: Keep it simple and clear (e.g., “Thank you – Interview for [Job Title]”).
  • Paragraph 1: The Thanks. Thank the interviewer(s) by name for their time. Mention the specific role you interviewed for.
  • Paragraph 2: The Connection. Briefly mention something specific you enjoyed discussing. This shows you were engaged. Then, connect it back to your skills.
    • Example: “I particularly enjoyed our conversation about the upcoming X project. It reminded me of my experience at my last role where I [mention a relevant achievement from your CV], and I’m confident I could bring that same success to your team.”
  • Paragraph 3: The Close. Reiterate your strong interest in the role and the company. End with a simple, professional closing.

How Tailor CV Keeps You Prepared:
The achievement you mention in your follow-up should be one of the “greatest hits” from your tailored CV. Having that document handy when you write your email makes it easy to pick a powerful, relevant example that reinforces the key message you wanted to convey during the interview.
